SO FAR SO GOOD ~ Part I
It’s been nearly 3 months since my last post. Having given it some thought I’d like to present this retrospective, a collection of cinematic narratives that I’ve created over time.
In my younger years I was a professional filmmaker. Through a lot of study and hard work I became proficient at the art of telling stories with pictures. Some of the films I made won awards and had worldwide distribution (pardon my chest-thunping). My very first commercial project was made with bulky old-school equipment and costly lab expenses. It was titled “Northbound” and took two years to complete. I loved making movies. But way leads to way and life took me in other directions. Nowadays with an iPhone I can shoot, edit, mix and release a show on YouTube in one day. Anyway, so far so good. Hope you enjoy the films.
Chapter 1 ~ During most of 1966 and 1967 I wandered on an open ended journey across four continents. During that time one of my companions had a Super 8 movie camera and kept a record of the year we traveled together. A few years ago I had the film footage digitized and edited it down to a 2 minute cut.
Chapter 2 ~ Forty years later, this piece was shot in Yellowstone Park during a road trip in 2007. It was a story I’d been telling for over 30 years and finally committed it to record.
Chapter 3 – In the early 1970s my girlfriend and I designed and built a Gypsywagon and hauled it up to the mountains of Oregon where we lived for a time.
Chapter 4 – Hannah is my daughter. She was born in 1978 and grew up to be a self-empowered woman in the corporate world. She and her husband raised three sons to become fine young men. Hannah’s now the grandmother of two lovely little ones.
Chapter 5 ~ In the summer of 1991 I took Hannah on a 3 week road trip all around the American Southwest. We had an excellent time. Along the way we paid visits to old friends…. and so much more. The memories of this experience will be shared by the two of us for the rest of our days.
